1453202 Aerosol antiperspirants COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO 20 Sept 1974 [24 Sept 1973] 41147/74 Heading A5B Dry aerosol astringent and antiperspirant compositions comprise 0.2 to 12% of an astringent powder having a particle size of less than 100 microns, 1 to 50% by weight of substantially anhydrous saturated C 2-6 alkylene dialkanoate wherein the alkanoate residues each contain from 8 to 10 carbon atoms, the weight ratio of astringent powder to alkylene dialkanoate being in the range from 0.1:1 to 3.0:1, and from 50 to 98% of a liquid propellant selected from hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons and mixtures thereof and having a vapour pressure at 70 ‹F in the range from 15 to 100 psig, the composition being contained in a valved, normally closed, pressurized dispensing container. The astringent powder may be aluminium chlorohydrate, aluminium chloride, aluminium sulphate, aluminium oxychloride, aluminium oxysulphate, zirconium tetrachloride, zirconyl hydroxychloride, zirconyl oxychloride, ferric chloride, zinc sulphate, zinc sulphocarbolate, zirconium salt amine and amino acid complexes, zirconium salt-aluminium chlorohydroxide-glycol complexes, aluminium chlorohydroxideglycol complexes, aluminium chlorohydroxidezirconyl hydroxychlorideglycine complexes, zirconyl hydroxychloride amino acid complexes or zirconyl hydrochloride aluminium hydroxychloride complexes. The alkylene dialkanoate is preferably ethylene-1, 2-dioctanoate, ethylene-1 -octanoate-2-pelargonate, ethylene-1, 2-di-(2-ethylhexanoate), propylene-1, 2-dipelargonate, propylene-1, 3-diperlargonate, butylene-1, 3-didecanoate, butylene-2, 3-dipelargonate, amylene-1, 5-di-(3, 7-dimethyloctanoate), hexane-1, 6-didecanoate, 2, 2-dimethyl butane - 1, 3-pelargonate or 2, 2-dimethylpropane-1- octanoate-3-(2-ethylhexanoate). The compositions may contain a dispersing agent for the astringent powder e.g. a hydrophobic clay, colloidal silica, aluminium soap, starch or talc. The compositions may also contain a compound for inhibiting bacterial growth and/or a perfume.
