Abstract
1451775 Polyurethanes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Sept 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 51876/73 Addition to 1429296 Heading C3R A process for preparing polyurethanes comprises reacting diphenylmethane diisocyanate at a NCO : OH ratio of from 0À88 : 1 to 1À20 : 1 under substantially anhydrous conditions with, as sole isocyanate-reactive component, a polyester having a viscosity within the range 100 to 250 centistokes at 100‹ C., a hydroxyl value within the range 50 to 100 mg KOH/g. and an acid value less than 2À0 mg. KOH/g., which has been formed by condensing adipic acid with a molecular excess of a mixture of polyols consisting of ethylene and propylene glycols in a molar ratio of from 65 : 35 to 75 : 25 together with a polyol having 3 or more hydroxyl groups and a molecular weight below 500, the amount of the latter being such as to give up to 0À2 branch points per 1000 units of molecular weight of the polyester. The examples describe reacting polyesters, in which the polyol is trimethylolpropane, with 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethane diisocyanate.
