Abstract

1451685 Wrapping coins GLORY KOGYO KK 21 Jan 1974 [23 Jan 1973] 02802/74 Heading B8C A coin wrapping apparatus comprises wrapping rolls 20-22 arranged around a space into which a stack of coins to be wrapped may be introduced, means 33 for feeding wrapping paper 25 to the space, the rolls 20-22 being advanced to engage and rotate the stack to wrap the paper around it, guide plates 89, 94, 95, 99, 107 for the paper, and crimping means 23, 24 for folding in the edges of the wrapped paper. Coins from a hopper 10 are fed by a disc 12, belt 13 and counting sprocket 15 to a vibrated alignment cylinder 17 where they form a stack above a shutter mechanism 19. With a stack in the cylinder 17, a coin supporting rod 29 and guide tube 28 are elevated, so that on opening the shutter mechanism 19, the stack may be lowered into the wrapping space. Roll advance.-The rolls 20-22 are supported respectively on arms 58, 59 on a shaft 56, arms 70, 71 on a shaft 68 and arms 81, 82 on a shaft 79, the shafts 56, 68, 71, the first of which has a fixed axis of rotation, being interconnected by pivotable links 66, 78 attached to arms 42, 60 respectively on a shaft 38 and the shaft 56, which shafts are drivingly connected by sector gears 43, 47. Angular movement of the shaft 38 acts to move the rolls 20, 22 relative to one another, the links 66, 78 maintaining an equilateral triangle disposition of the roll axes. A shaft 48, which rotates once per wrapping cycle, bears cams 49, 50 for co-operating with followers 54, 55 to pivot a lever 41 attached to the shaft 38 to move the shaft 38 and thus position the rolls. To limit advance of the rolls 20- 22, movement of the lever 41 is limited by a plate 45 to which it is pivotably attached by a shaft 44, the plate 45 being urged by a spring 47 so that rollers 54, 46 at its ends engage the cam 49 and a cam 40, the cam 40 being positioned by a setting knob in accordance with coin diameter so that an appropriately projecting face engages the roller 46, about which the plate 45 pivots as the roller 54 follows the cam 49. A cam portion 51 defines the closest approach of the rollers 20-22, and the cam 50 has a projection 53 which co-operates with the follower 55 to define a maximum separation. The guide plates are operatively associated with the rolls 20-22 so that as the rolls 20-22 are advanced, they move into position for guiding the paper 25 around the stack. Plate 94 is fixed to the arms 58, 59, while plate 95 is fixed to the members 81, 82. Plate 89 is supported by members 87, 88 for pivotal movement on end shafts 63, 64 of the roll 20, plate 99 is similarly supported by members 97, 98 on shafts 73, 74 if the roll 21, and plate 107 is pivotable about a shaft 105 on the arms 70, 71. Movement of the plates 89, 107 relative to the rolls 20-22 is effected by a T-shaped member 111, which is pivoted about a point 82 by co-operation with a further cam 110 on the shaft 48. A follower 114 co-operates with and pivots a spring-loaded sector gear 93, which co-operates with a toothed portion of the member 87, while the plate 107 is pivotable by means of a linkage 115, 118. The plates 89, 107 are thus moved outwardly by a portion 109 of the cam 110 to enable the crimping means 23, 24 to enter the stack space at the appropriate point in the wrapping cycle. The plate 99 is pivoted by means of a gear-wheel 103, connecting a toothed portion of the member 97 to a fixed toothed sector 104. The crimping means 23, 24 comprise needles 23, 24 on arms 144, 145, arranged to be pivotable about and vertically movable on a fixed shaft 129. Means 149, 150 on the arms cooperate with cams 127, 128 on the shaft 48 to control vertical movement, a constant force spring 148 urging the arms 144, 145 towards one another for crimping, while a cam 137 allows the spacing to be preset according to stack height. A further cam 126 on the shaft 48 controls inward swinging of the arms 144, 145 into crimping position. Operation.-A stack of coins from the cylinder 17 is lowered on the rod 29 into the wrapping space and the rollers 20-22 are advanced to engage it. Paper is then fed by rollrs 31, 32, and is guided around the stack, the roller 20 being driven by a gear connection 61 to rotate the stack and draw in the paper 25. A cutter 34 is operative to cut off the required length, and the crimping means 23, 24 is advanced to crimp the ends of the package, whereupon the rollers 20- 22 separate to allow the package to fall into a discharge shoot 8.
