1450806 Feed mechanism for slicing machines VRE [trading as OFF MECC VITTORIO RE] 30 Oct 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 50486/73 Heading A4C A device for intermittently feeding a product to be sliced to the blade of a slicing machine comprises a rocker arm 4 driven by a motor driving the slicing blade, a lever 8 having one end 7 connected to the arm 4 and the other end 9 adapted to transmit, via a gear 10 and a uni-directional clutch 17, intermittent rotation to a shaft 18, the shaft 18 driving a further clutch 19, and means for transforming the intermittent rotation into an intermittent translation of a support for said product longitudinally of the shaft 18. The motor driveshaft 1 drives a pulley 2 on which a connecting rod 3 is eccentrically pivoted. The end 7 of the lever 8 is pivoted on a threaded nut (5), Fig. 1 (not shown) which can be racked by a knob 12 along a threaded rod 6 in a groove 11 in the arm 4. Oscillation of the arm 8 is transformed via gears 10, 16 to the uni-directional clutch 17 which produces the intermittent rotation of the shaft 18. The shaft 18 is coupled, via the further, electromagnetic, clutch 19, to a threaded shaft 21 where rotation is transformed by the threads 22 into the intermittent translation of the support. The clutch 19 may be decoupled after a given number of oscillations, by a counter. The amount of translation, and hence the thickness of the slices, may be varied by adjusting the position of the nut (5) on the arm 4 or by varying the pitch of the threads 22. Alternatively, the length of the lever 8 may be varied. The slices are laid out in spaced groups on a conveyer belt, ready for packaging in groups.
