Abstract

1450558 Checking wheel balance G BRISARD 18 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 58452/73 Heading G1X Apparatus for checking the balance in situ of the front wheel of a motor cycle comprises a pivotally mounted lever constituted by a pair of spaced apart arms 3, 4 having at their one ends support members 5 for the front axle of the vehicle and, remote from said ends, a lifting device 8 which can be actuated to tilt the lever about its pivot axis 2 and thereby lift the wheel R to be checked clear of the ground. The apparatus is also provided with one or more detectors for indicating inbalance of the wheel when supported and rotated on the apparatus. The or each detector may comprise a Piezo-electric element for detecting vibrations, a core and coil arrangement 10, 11, or non-electric devices. An electric motor 13a for rotating a drum 13 which is engageable with the wheel R may be provided and the lifting device may be in the form of a pneumatic of hydraulic jack.
