Abstract

1450282 Rotary head recorder PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 00301/74 Heading G5R In a rotary head video recording system the erasing signal to erase heads 6, 7 which precede recording heads 2, 3 is cut off as these erase heads cross a control signal or audio track 28 which extends parallel to the edge of the tape. The erase signal from source 29 is applied via a gate 32 to the heads 6, 7 each of which is preceded in its direction of rotation by a magnet 42, 43, the passage of which is detected by a pick-up coil 41. As the speed of rotation of the drum 1 is fixed by the field synchronizing pulses of the signal being recorded, the pulses 44 produced by passage of the magnets appear at a fixed time before the erase heads reach the track 28. Switching device 36 to which the pulses 44 are applied produces an output pulse 46 which starts after a delay equal to the fixed time and has a duration equal to the time the heads take to cross the track. This pulse is used to close the normally open gate 32. In a second arrangement the gating signal is derived from the field synchronization pulses.
