Abstract

1450222 Time switches HEYL KG GES FUR ANALYSENTECHNIK Gebr 8 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 00786/74 Heading H1N [Also in Division H2] Regeneration mechanism in a water softener is initiated by a switching device in accordance with pulses from a water meter and the average hardness of the water, a time control element being operated each time it receives one of the said pulses to set an integrating device in operation for a preselected period of time which is manually adjustable in accordance with the water hardness, and the integrating device actuating the switching device after a predetermined total time of operation. A reed contact unit of a water meter is connected to input terminals (WZ, Fig. 5, not shown) of a univibrator circuit which gates a triac for a preselected period of time upon the passage of a predetermined quantity of water, and this causes motor m to run for the said time period (See Division H2). When the integral of such running periods is one hour adjustable lobes 6 on programme dials 5 driven by the motor m actuate microswitch b1 to hold motor m energised for a further two hours, during which the microswitch b2 causes programmed regeneration of the exhausted water softener ion-exchange filter. The time for which motor in runs on receipt of each input pulse is variable to allow for different water hardness by means of a knob 1 coupled to a rheostat (P1) controlling the duration of the output pulse from the univibrator; dial 8 is graduated in degrees of water hardness. A coloured indicator 7 is visible through a slot in the front of a housing (Fig. 1, not shown) to show the degree of exhaustion and/or progress of regeneration. A knob 9 permits manual advance or shortening of the regeneration programme.
