Abstract

1449876 Remote control barrier operation SOC DE FABRICATION D INSTRUMENTS DE MESURE 13 Dec 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 57752/73 Heading E2M [Also in Divisions H3 and H5] A remote control operating mechanism for an access preventing barrier (e.g. for a car park entrance) comprises an electromagnetic radiation transmitter/receiver (Fig. 1) associated with means for moving the barrier and a mobile transponder (Fig. 2) which receives radiation from the transmitter 9, modulates it, then reflects it back to receiver 11; barrier operation being initiated on detection of a signal with correct modulation. The transponder has a parabolic reflector and two square wave oscillators 5, 6 of different frequencies; a diode 2 is non-conductive (thus allowing reflection) only when the signals from both oscillators are high simultaneously. The reflected signal is therefore turned on or off with a modulation that involves both frequencies. The receiver has filters that receive each frequency and an AND circuit which operates the barrier when both frequencies are present. The radiation is preferably of 1-10 cm wavelength e.g. 3 cm.
