Abstract

1449554 Limb supports R KONVALIN 1 Nov 1974 47447/74 Heading A5R An adjustable leg brace comprises a mounting device 12 for attachment to the shoe of the user, a pair of ankle joints 99, a pair of ankle uprights 14 connected to said mounting device 12 and to a respective ankle joint 99, each said ankle upright 14 being adjustable both in length and about a transverse axis at its lower end. A pair of calf uprights 16 extend upwardly from said ankle uprights 14 and are connected thereto at the respective ankle joint 99. A pair of thigh uprights 20 extend upwardly from said calf uprights 16 and are joined thereto at respective knee joints 102. The uprights 14 and 16 are both adjustable in length, each upright comprising an upper member and a lower member (72 and 66, 94 and 92, respectively) joined together by pins 76, 98, passing through aligned holes in the respective upper and lower members, and by straps 76, 96. The mounting device 12 comprises two adjustment members 32 to each of which are attached bands 24 joined by an adjustable clamp (28) for adjustment around the rear of the heel of a shoe. At the forward end of the adjustment members 32 are located angle members 34 joined by a threaded bolt 38 to allow adjustment for the heel width of the shoe of the user. The lower ankle upright members 66 extend into respective channels (48) formed in the adjustment members 32 and are attached to said adjustment members by bolts 68. Adjustment of the ankle upright members 14 about the transverse axis defined through bolts 68 is achieved by means of grub-screws (64) which bear on the opposed front and rear edges of the lower ankle upright members 66. Secured to the top of the upper thigh upright members 104 is an adjustable thigh cuff 22 covered with a leather or plastics covering 108. The thigh cuff comprises two metal bands 110, 112 each connected to a respective upper thigh upright member 104, the bands being joined together by a pin 118 passing through aligned holes and by straps 114. A similar adjustable calf cuff 10 is also provided, connected with the upper calf upright members 94. An ankle strap 86 may be provided connecting with a U-bolt 78, attached to either one of said adjustment members 32.
