Abstract

1449030 Isothiazolidin-3-ones ROHM & HAAS CO 28 Dec 1973 [28 Feb 1973] 59908/73 Heading C2C Novel isothiazolidin-3-ones having the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group or a carbamyl group of the formula Y is an oxygen or sulphur atom; R<SP>4</SP> is an optionally substituted alkyl, alkylsulphonyl, arylsulphonyl, aralkylsulphonyl, aryl, aralkyl or carboalkoxyalkyl group; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are halogen atoms or optionally substituted alkyl groups and X is a halogen atom, are prepared by either (i) halogenating a 4-isothiazolin-3-one of the formula preferably at a temperature of from -15‹ to 120‹ C. in a non-hydroxylic solvent, or (ii) by cyclization of a dithiodiisobutyramide of the formula e.g. by simultaneous addition of a halogenating agent and the amide to a solvent at a temperature of from 25‹ to 70‹ C. The novel compounds may be used as biocides.
