Abstract

1448730 Retractive switches BLACK & DECKER MFG CO 28 Dec 1973 [3 Jan 1973] 60070/73 Heading H1N An electric hand tool has a motor controlled by a switch operated by a trigger 22 biased towards an off position, and a latch, for retaining the trigger in an "on" position, which has a manually engageable operator portion 32 disposed entirely within a recess 30 in handle 16 to prevent accidental release or engagement of the latch. Trigger 22 has two shoulders 31, 29 corresponding to two on positions of the switch, for two different motor speeds engageable by flared end 46 of latch rod 36. In use, trigger 22 is depressed the appropriate amount and button 32 moved upwards. Acting via foot 42 and enlargement 38, this compresses spring 41 in a bore 37 of sleeve 34 and pushes the latch against the trigger which may then be released. Pressure of the appropriate shoulder 31 or 29 then retains the latch in position until released by depression of the trigger when spring 41 moves the latch down and out of engagement.
