Abstract

1448238 Adjustable dental chairs SIEMENS AG 22 Oct 1973 [21 Oct 1972] 49116/73 Heading A4J An adjustable height dental chair is mounted on a base 1 by a parallelogram linkage 40, 41 pivotally connected to the base and to a chair support 3, adjustment of the chair being effected by a nut and spindle 54, 58 connected between diagonally opposite corners of the parallelogram and driven by an electric motor 39 preferably via a V-belt drive 48, 50 and a worm and wheel 46. Preferably the spindle 58 is connected via the worm and wheel to the lower pivot axis 24 of the lower link 41 of the parallelogram linkage and the nut is connected to the upper pivot axis 23 of the upper link 40. The nut may comprise two interconnected portions 72, 74, portion 72 containing a ball circulation portion for engagement with the spindle, portion 74 being connected to the pivot axis 23 and the two portions being inter-connected by three screws 75 each arranged with a small axial clearance 76 such that if the driving spindle is subjected to tension the two portions 72, 74 lift away from each other with portion 74 operating a safety switch 73 which switches off the motor.
