Abstract

1447194 Preparation of 1-amino-2-chloro-4- hydroxy-anthraquinone BAYER AG 24 Oct 1974 [25 Oct 1973] 46038/74 Heading C4P 1 - Amino - 2 - chloro - 4 - hydroxy - anthraquinone is prepared by reacting 1-N-sulphinylamino-2,4-dichloro-anthraquinone with sulphuric acid at elevated temperature and in the presence of boric acid. The reaction may be carried out via 1-amino-2,4-dichloroanthraquinone, the boric acid together with further sulphuric acid being added after the intermediate has formed and evolution of SO 2 has ceased. The starting material may be prepared by reacting 1-aminoanthraquinone with thionyl chloride to give 1-N-sulphinylaminoanthraquinone and reacting this with sulphuryl chloride. In a comparative example 1-amino-2- chloro-4-hydroxyanthraquinone is prepared by reacting 1 - amino - 2,4 - dichloro - anthraquinone with sulphuric acid in the presence of boric acid.
