Abstract

1447063 Mechanical switches; multiposition rotary switches IHA HOLDING AG 20 Aug 1973 [24 Aug 1972] 39351/73 Heading H1N A thumbwheel-operated multi-position rotary switch which can be used singly or in multiple stack form (Fig. 1, not shown) comprises an open-ended insulating housing 12 having an end wall 16 provided with a circular array of orifices 44 for the accommodation of a plurality of fixed conductor bars 46 which pass into and/or through the switch parallel to a longitudinal axial shaft 32. An insulating body 30 which may be integral with the housing 12 is centrally disposed therein and has a peripheral surface 36 in which guide niches 42 aligned with the orifices 44 carry the conductor bars 46 and in which projecting teeth 38 act as bearing surfaces for an annular conductive rotatable thumbwheel 50 having an indexed sleeve portion 52 and a serrated flange portion 54 projecting through an opening in a side wall of the housing. Respective ends 60a, 60b of a conductive spring 60 serve as a brush connection terminal and as a detent for the various switch positions. Internal to the thumbwheel 50 is a recess housing a resilient contact member 56 which makes and breaks contact with the conductor bars 46 as the thumbwheel is rotated. Non-contact positions of the switch may be introduced by omission of the relevant conductor bar 46.
