1446950 Magnetic disc recording and playback PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Sept 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45036/73 Heading G5R A magnetic disc 1 rotates close to a plate 4 carrying one or more magnetic heads 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and having in its surface facing the disc 1 two groove patterns I, II which respectively produce opposite fluid pressures in the gap between the plate 4 and the disc 1, the resultant thrust on each being zero at a chosen gap height h 1 . As described, the grooves 6 of pattern I are of depth h 1 and the grooves 7 of pattern II have a depth of at least 5h 1 .
