Abstract
1446535 Terminal wiring machine STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 23 Jan 1975 2998/75 Heading B3A A wiring machine for wiring terminals on electrical equipment having a plurality of terminals to be wired according to a predetermined pattern comprises, a wiring tool (G), Fig. 2 (not shown), means on the machine for holding the equipment and machine relative to one another, a target arrangement 12 for indicating each terminal in turn to be wired, means for reading a stored sequence of target terminal positions and wiring instructions, display means 7 responsive to the wiring instructions to display them to an operator, means responsive to the read target terminal positions to cause the target 12 to indicate the required terminal positions for wiring, and testing and interlocking means for inhibiting operation of the machine unless the correct wiring instructions are performed and the tool (G) addresses the correct terminal. When the machine is set up for operation, an operator touches a pad with a tool (G) and a tape in a tape reader 17 is advanced to display the necessary instructions on the display unit 7. A lamp 17 indicates from which aperture 9 a wire is to be drawn while the display indicates the tool, which is a wire wrapping gun, to be used. The wires are supplied from a plurality of reels 5 and they are electrically connected in the fault finding circuit to ensure use of the correct wire. The end of the indicated wire is bared as the target is moved in X-Y directions by electric motors (N) 1 (M) 1 Fig. 2, to place it over the first address. The gun bit is loaded with the bared wire end and the gun is placed on the target. If all instructions have been correctly obeyed it will wrap the wire end on a selected terminal. Any fault is indicated on the display and must be cleared for the gun to operate. When the wrap is completed, the gun is removed from the target and the bit touched against the pad to advance the tape one step. As the target moves to the second address, the operator may route the wire, and when instructed cut it to length, bare the cut end and repeat the wrapping step. Twisted balanced pairs of leads may also be used and the display indicates which wire of the pair is to be wrapped, selection of the wrong wire inhibiting the gun by the electrical continuity through the reel.
