Abstract
1446474 Automatic frequency control FUJITSU Ltd and FUJITSU FANUC Ltd 5 Sept 1973 [5 Sept 1972 13 Sept 1972 20 Oct 1972 (2)] 41862/73 Heading H3A [Also in Divisions G3 and H2] Apparatus for providing driving pulses PO to a stepping motor is arranged that under equilibrium conditions the frequency of the output pulses PO equals that of input pulses Pi and that the response of the frequency of the output in response to a stepped change in the frequency of pulses Pi may be linear, exponential or both, the response time of the motor being thereby controlled. The embodiment shown comprises a first up/down counter 1, the input pulses Pi being applied to an incrementing input thereof, a comparator 2 for comparing the count at 1 with that at a second up/down counter 3, and "UP" or "DWN" signal being provided depending upon whether the count at 1 is greater than that at 3 or otherwise respectively. The signal from comparator 2 causes pulses from an external source having a frequency F1 to be counted up or down at 3 by enabling one of two AND gates 5, 6. The numerical output from counter 3 is multiplied at 4 by a frequency F2 from a further external source and a frequency PO is provided to the motor and these pulses are also fed back to the decrementing input of counter 1. A full mathematical treatment is given in the Specification and it is shown that the shape of the response curve of the frequency of pulses PO in response to step changes in the train Pi is dependent on the relative values of F1 and the frequency of pulse Pi. The multiplier 4 may be replaced by a D/A converter (7), Fig. 9 (not shown), controlling a voltage controlled oscillator (8), or the counter 3 may be connected to an adder (21), Fig. 10 (not shown), whereby at each pulse in a train of frequency F2 the count at 3is added to that in aregister (22) and overflow pulses are produced by this register. In a modification, Fig. 12 (not shown), the counter 1 is connected to an adder, register arrangement (31), (32) of the type described above to give an output frequency proportional to F1 times the count at 1. This frequency is compared with that of the pulses PO at (35) to provide the "UP" and "DWN" signals to the gates 5, 6 controlling counter 3.
