Abstract

1445960 Electrolytic recovery of silver from photographic solution D PENNELLIER & CO Ltd 10 July 1975 29034/75 Heading C7B Useful material is recovered from liquid waste, e.g. silver from spent photographic solution, in apparatus comprising a holding vessel 1 for receiving the waste e.g. via pipe 2, with a first sensor e.g. float switch S1 responsive to the amount of waste therein, a recovery vessel 3 provided with means for recovery of the material e.g. electrodes 4 connected to power supply 5, means e.g. pump 6 for transferring the waste from vessel 1 to 3, a second sensor e.g. float switch S2 responsive to the amount of waste in vessel 3 and arranged to control (via contact S2a) the waste-transfer means to operate only when the amount of waste in vessel 3 is less than a predetermined value and (via contact S2b) the recovery means to operate only when the amount of waste is not less than a predetermined value, and means e.g. solenoid valve controlling outlet pipe 7 for discharge of waste, the recovery and waste-transfer means being further under the control of first sensor Sl e.g. via movable contacts S32, S31 of switch 3 whereby they are rendered inoperative when the amount of waste in vessel 1 is less than a predetermined value. When the amount of waste in vessel 1 is more than its predetermined value, the first sensor S1 controls a timer comprising cam 12 driven by motor 13, being arranged to operate (via switch S3) the recovery and waste transfer means, or the waste-discharge means, in alternation. The treated waste can be recycled, Fig. 2 (not shown).
