Abstract

1444431 Treating gasoline SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 14 Sept 1973 43290/73 Heading C5G The octane rating of a gasoline which is substantially free from organo metallic antiknock additive(s) is trimmed by addition to the gasoline of a minor amount by weight of an aromatic compound which contains an ester group derived from a phenolic hydroxyl group and a carboxyl group. The hydroxy group may be derived from phenol, various alkyl and alkoxy phenols and naphthols. The carboxyl group may be derived from carbonic acid, formic acid, oxalic acid, malonic acid, succinic acid, adipic acid, benzoic acid and azodicarboxylic acids. The gasoline may also include anti-oxidants, metal deactivators, anti-icing agents, antirust agents, corrosion inhibitors, detergents, e.g. polyalkenyl polyamines, and compounds which reduce exhaust valve seat wear, e.g. cresyl diphenyl phosphate.
