Abstract

1443982 Producing flame-retardant methacrylic acid polymer plates MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 18 July 1973 06487/76 Divided out of 1443981 Heading C3P A flame-retardant and antistatic methacrylic acid polymer plate is produced by bulk polymerizing in a mould, a mixture of (A) 10-60% of methacrylic acid, (B) 1-14À6% of water; (C) methyl methacrylate; (C2) 3-15% acrylamide; (C3) 0-15% styrene and (D) 1-25% of at least one compound selected from tri-(C 1-8 alkyl) phosphates, tri-(C 6-14 aryl)phosphates, trishalogenated C 2-6 alkyl phosphates and phosphonates and halogenated C 2-6 alkyl polyphosphonates; all the percentages being by weight, based on the total weight of (A), (C1), (C2) and (C3). Optional further ingredients are: 1-8 wt. per cent of a compound selected from dialkyl esters of phthalic acid, with 20-34 carbon atoms per molecule, dialkyl esters of dibasic fatty acids, with 18-36 carbon atoms per molecule, and alkyl esters of monobasic fatty acids with 20-40 carbon atoms per molecule; 0À01-5% of a diethylenic comonomer; and 0À1-6% of a C 2-12 alkyl acid phosphate; the percentages being based on the total weight of the monomers.
