Abstract

1443962 Uranium isotope chromatography ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 5 Oct 1973 [5 Oct 1972] 46534/73 Heading B1H [Also in Division C1] Uranium-235 is concentrated by passing an aqueous solution containing U(VI) complex anions through an anion exchange material so that the anions are adsorbed on a portion of the exchange material and then passing an aqueous solution of a reducing agent through the exchange material to elute the anions adsorbed while reducing them to U(IV) complex ions. The eluted solution containing U(IV) complex ions may be passed through an anion exchange material containing an oxidising agent to oxidise the U(IV) complex ions to U(VI) complex anions, adsorbing the U(VI) complex anions on the exchange material and forming a U complex ion band and then passing a solution of a reducing agent through the exchange material to move the uranium complex ion band. The anion exchange material may be resins of addition copolymers and condensation polymers and also cellulose and inorganic types.
