Abstract

1443873 Leader gear systems ELECTROLUX AB 14 March 1974 11477/74 Heading H4U In a system for guiding an aircraft to touchdown, a conductor on the ground below the glide path is energized with constant frequency pulses for generating a magnetic field and on the aircraft three relatively perpendicular coils responsive to the magnetic field are coupled to a measuring instrument containing a first coil to which the difference between the voltages induced in the coils responding to the horizontal component of the magnetic field and a second coil to which the voltage induced in the coil responding to the vertical component of the magnetic field are applied. As described, a pair of conductors are laid along the glide path and flared in conventional manner at the approach lane to facilitate picking up the magnetic fields and to provide the correct altitude indication for descent. The measuring instrument may be an oscilloscope producing a trace which is asymmetrical with respect to an axis representing the null position, the display having two horizontal segments of which the angular size indicates altitude and their position with respect to the null position is a measure of the lateral deviation of the aircraft from its glide path, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). A dial type instrument containing two coils may be provided to indicate the deviation from the prescribed direction of flight.
