Abstract

1443534 Devices for preparing microscope slides H S HOLLOWAY 25 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 45192/72 Heading G2J A device for preparing microscope slides comprises an extruded body of bifurcated cross-section, see Fig. 2 the extremity of one end of one bifurcation being formed as a doctor blade, so that a microscope slide inserted between the arms will have one face wiped by the doctor. To ensure that the direction of movement of the slide is parallel to the length of the device its width in plan view Fig. 1 (not shown) corresponds to the width of the slide and the long edges are covered by channel section guides. Alternatively rubber bands may be used. To ensure even spreading of a liquid sample (e.g. blood) the whole device or the doctor may be treated with a surfactant. Preferably the surfactant is a fluoro-surfactant in dilute aqueous, aqueous/ alcohol, or alcoholic solution. The solvent may be allowed to evaporate and the apparatus may be treated before packaging.
