Centrifugal speed indicators with recording- apparatus.-In apparatus for recording the speed of a moving part of a machine and the direction of revolution, a hollow member A carrying the recording parts, is rotated at a constant speed through gearing D, D<1>, and E, E<1> by a slowspeed motor or other mechanism, and a governor H is driven by the machine whose speed is to be recorded either directly or through a motor K and generator L. As the speed varies, the governor H, which is rotatably connected by a collar F<2> with a piston rod F<1>, reciprocates a piston F and causes mercury in the member A to be forced into or withdrawn from the barrel or radial arm A' and thereby moves the plunger G radially against the action of springs G<1>. To the plunger G is attached a marking-device M, N which is arranged to move in operative relation to a recorddisk. In order to distinguish in which direction the machine has been running, the marking-device as shown in Fig. 2 comprises two arms M disposed at an angle to one another and secured together by a bar R to the end of the plunger G and bv a curved bar S which bears on the recorddisk. The markers N are of different colour and by the rotation of the radial arm A<1> in one direction or the other, one or other of the markers N is brought into engagement with the record-disk and traces a curve of different colour. When a blank disk is provided, datum lines may be drawn thereon by providing the radial arm A<1> with an extension or additional arm P adjustable on the arm A<1> and carrying a number of markers Q adjustably mounted thereon. Instead of providing a fixed record-disk the radial arm may be held stationary by a thumb-screw T and a recordstrip fed along at right-angles to the arm or the radial arm may be allowed to rotate and the record-slip fed intermittently after each record or desired period so as to expose a fresh surface to the marking-device.
