Abstract

1443323 Vehicle lamps ELMA SpA and N PARISI 10 Oct 1973 [19 Oct 1972 and 30 July 1973] 47281/73 Heading F4R A motor vehicle headlight comprises a lamp 14 and an hermetically sealed enclosure defined by a front lens 1, a parabolic reflector 2 having a highly reflective coating 3 and a re-entrant transparent element 19, which is separate from the reflector and fixed thereto by a sealing material 21 the lamp 14 being located in the aperture in the reflector but outside the sealed enclosure. As shown, the transparent glass bell 19 is secured around the aperture to the inside of the reflector 2 by a resin compound 21 which may be dispersed in liquid plasticizers and a similar compound may be used to seal the front lens 1 and reflector 2. The reflector 2 is of metal with a specularly reflecting, vacuum deposited metal inner surface 3. The lamp 14 is supported in the aperture in the reflector by a collar 16 and rods 17 engaging a collar 12 attached to the rear of the reflector and provision may be made in the mounting arrangement to permit any moisture collecting in the bell 19 to drain away. The bell 19 may be provided with some opaque regions to selectively mask the lamp.
