Abstract

1443067 Curable unsaturated bis-imide compositions CIBA-GEIGY AG 23 July 1973 [24 July 1972] 35051/73 Heading C3R A curable mixture comprises (a) a bis-imide where A is a C 2-30 divalent organic radical and B is and (b) an azomethine R-CR<SP>1</SP>=N-R<SP>11</SP>, R-CR<SP>1</SP>=N-A<SP>1</SP>-N=CR<SP>1</SP>-R or where A<SP>1</SP> is a C 2-30 organic radical and the R groups are various defined organic radicals or in the case of R only may be H, R and R<SP>1</SP> may be joined to complete a ring. The mixture may contain 1 to 3 mols. of (a) for each azomethine group in (b). The azomethines may be obtained by reacting an aldehyde or ketone with a mono- or di-amine or a di-aldehyde or diketone with a monoamine. The mixture may include a catalyst, e.g. an organic peroxide a per-salt; and conventional additive, e.g. fillers, plasticizers, pigments, dyes, mould-releasers or flameretardants and may be cured directly at 100‹ to 280‹ C., preferably 150‹ to 250‹ C. or via a partially soluble still thermoplastic prepolymer obtained at 50‹ to 140‹ C. Specified application include lacquers, compression or injection moulding formulations, sintering powders, dipping resins, casting resins, impregnating resins, adhesives and laminating resin. General reference is made to use of the prepolymers in powder form for fluidized bed coating and as a solution or suspension for preparing glass fibre laminates; in all the specific examples cast or pressed mouldings are obtained.
