1441459 Time switching apparatus MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 25 June 1973 [27 June 1972 18 Aug 1972 22 Aug 1972] 30117/73 Heading G3T [Also in Division H3] Apparatus for controlling an electric appliance includes a clock, a program board with indicators indicating the nature of the control and individually movable on the board to set the time of operation of the appliance, means for pre-setting control information for controlling operation of the appliance in the nature indicated, and a device for reading information pre-set in the program board and pre-setting means, in accordance with signals from the clock, to control the operation of the appliance. In the embodiment shown, a TV channel selector includes a plurality of lamps, sequentially energized e.g. at hourly intervals by clock 82, and sliders 73' at pre-set positions on programme board 81'. When the positions of a slider and the energized lamp coincides, light passes via fibre optic link 88 to a photo-sensor 89, whose output energizes a channel selector 76 producing a control voltage or pulses. In alternative embodiments, not shown, the fibre optic link may be omitted and the photo-sensor mounted on the slider, or the position of the slider detected capacitatively or by reflected light. In another embodiment, the sliders may include tapped resistors that set the desired channel, energized only at pre-set times using gate circuits. The device, which may be built into the TV receiver, or remote therefrom e.g. using an ultrasonic link to the receiver, may be programmed daily or weekly with a programme board for each day. The device may also control a radio, rice cooker or washing machine.
