Abstract

1441284 Drying tubes ALFRED LOVGREN BYGGNADS AB 7 Nov 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 51719/73 Heading F4G The invention relates to a method of and apparatus for drying timber; the method comprises the steps of placing the wood in a closed chamber, maintaining the relative or absolute humidity in the room in a predetermined range about a predetermined reference value by periodically ventilating the room whilst the rate of increase of humidity after a ventilation step is within a predetermined range and if the rate falls outside the range the predetermined reference value is changed. The apparatus includes a device 1 which gives out a signal representative of the relative humidity to an amplifier 2. The amplifier 2 is connected to a comparator 3 for comparing the humidity with adjustable upper and lower normal values which give the predetermined range about the reference value, the comparator on the humidity reaching the upper value triggers off actuation of the room ventilating means, e.g. a fan 8. The time between each ventilation is measured by a chromometer 4 programmable from data input means 5. A programmed switch 6 fed from the chromometer 5 functions, when the rate of increase of humidity after a ventilation falls outside a particular predetermined range to alter the predetermined reference value by altering the upper and lower nominal values. A setting means 7 is provided for setting the lowest nominal value, at which value, the timber is sufficiently dry.
