Abstract
1440679 Nickel sulphate LE NICKEL 22 Nov 1973 [28 Nov 1972] 54368/73 Heading C1A A process for the production of hydrated nickel sulphate comprises: (a) reacting a mixture including sulphuric acid and a pure or substantially pure solution of nickel chloride at the boiling point of the mixture, removing the hydrochloric acid as it is formed, (b) clarifying the reaction mixture, (c) crystallizing nickel sulphate from the clarified mixture, (d) drying the crystals of nickel sulphate and recycling the mother liquor of the crystallization and drying steps to an earlier stage of the process. In embodiments, (1) the said earlier stage is the reaction stage, the quantity of H 2 SO 4 being between 0À9 and 1À1 times the stoichiometric quantity for conversion of nickel chloride to sulphate; and (2) the quantity of H 2 SO 4 is between 1À5 and 3 times the stoichiometric, the process sequence involving the steps: reaction, cooling, filtering, recycle of the filtrate to the reaction stage, redissolution of the hydrated sulphate in recycled mother liquors, clarifying, crystallizing nickel sulphate and drying the crystals, the mother liquors of the crystallization and drying stages being recycled to dissolve the hydrated sulphate above.
