Abstract
1440052 Photometric head BAYER AG 20 March 1974 [24 March 1973] 12338/74 Heading G1A A photometric head comprises, a light source 1, a test cell 2, walls 5 of which consist of material permeable to the substance to be tested, a filter 3 for separating out a particular wavelength or wavelength range, and a detector 4. A pipe 6 is connected to a pump 7 or via a throttle to a zone of lower pressure than the area surrounding the cell so that test material is sucked through the walls 5 into the cell 2, the material being cleaned by filtering as it enters. Periodically, a cleaning gas may be passed through the cell walls to remove particles and if it has zero absorption, may be used as a zeroing gas for the photometer. The suction line may include a pressure flow regulator. The apparatus has application in monitoring workroom or external atmospheres e.g. for explosion warning or emission control purposes, or in analysis of liquids.
