Abstract

1439669 Sulphonated polymers in hair treating compositions NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP 11 Sept 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 42644/73 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C4 and A5] A hair-setting composition is packaged in an aerosol container and comprises an aqueous or aqueous/alcoholic solution of a sulphonated polymer selected from sulphonated polystyrene, sulphonated styrene copolymers and soluble salts of said polymers, and a pressuring amount of an aerosol propellant; the polymer having an average molecular weight of 6000-7,000,000, and being present in an amount of 0À1 to 10À0 wt. per cent of the total solution. The aqueous alcoholic solvent, when used, usually comprises a mixture of water and ethanol, and optionally, 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propane diol. Propellants used are isobutane/propane mixture and isobutane. Some examples describe non-aerosol compositions, although these are not claimed, but their use is.
