Abstract

1439522 Cracking MOBIL OIL CORP 4 July 1973 31813/73 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] In a cracking process of the kind in which the cracked material is fractionated and a fraction recracked in a second cracking zone, both cracking steps employ catalysts which comprise a mixture of two different zeolites. One zeolite is specified in terms of its chemical composition and X-ray diffraction pattern, and may be ZSM-5 or ZSM-8 which may be ion-exchanged with hydrogen, rare-earth, Mg, Zn, Mn, Al or Ca ions. The other has a pore-size of 6 to 15 Angstrom units, and may be zeolite-X or zeolite-Y, which may be ion-exchanged with hydrogen or rare-earth ions. The two may be composited with a common matrix, e.g. a kaolin, bentonite or montmorillonite clay, alumina, silica which may be composited with alumina, zirconia or germania, or a ternary system such as silica-alumina-thoria, silica-aluminazirconia, silica alumina-magnesia or silicamagnesia-zirconia. The feed to the first step may be a virgin gas oil and that to the second a recycle gas oil or a heavy naphtha fraction. Both reaction zones may be risers with continuous withdrawal regeneration and recycling of cataylst. The two effluents may be combined for working up.
