Abstract

1439521 Recording and playback; transporting record tapes STAAR SA 3 July 1973 [17 Nov 1972 15 March 1973 29 May 1973] 31640/73 Heading G5R The single motor 2 of a tape transport is electrically switched 20 from a normal speed mode, in which it drives a capstan 6, to a fast speed mode, in which pinch roller 16 is retracted, the switching of the motor and the retraction of the roller being achieved manually by means so arranged as to permit these operations to be effected simultaneously by one finger or hand. In addition to capstan 6, the motor 2 also drives a take-up reel 14 via a slipping friction drive 9. As shown, a single manual control 22 actuates both switch 20 and a lever 17 carrying both the pinch roller 16 and a head 15. Alternatively, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), separate controls (22, 22<SP>1</SP>) may be provided, interlinked (27, 28) so that it is only necessary to actuate the slide (22<SP>1</SP>) for the switch. This permits the pinch roller to be retracted without switching the motor, giving a more gentle acceleration of the tape by the reel drive 9. Alternatively, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), separate, non-linked controls may be provided, merely being juxtaposed for simultaneous actuation.
