Abstract

1439447 Component assemblies for telecommunications INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 2 May 1974 [10 May 1973] 19305/74 Heading H1R A telecommunications exchange MDF comprises (Figs. 1 and 2) back to back identical subframes 1, 2 comprising a line side section 3, a central jumper space 4, and an exchange side section 5 one above the other. Section 3 comprises line panels, e.g. 6, 7; 8, 9 in alignment each carrying a first group of line terminals 10 perpendicular thereto which are wrap connected to cables passing out through clamps 11. Section 5 comprises exchange panels, e.g. 12, 13 in alignment carrying line control keys and exchange terminal 14, 15 the terminals being wrap connected to cables passing out through clamps 16 and holes 17 of a fanning strip 18. Jumper space 4 bounded by longitudinal beams 19, 20; 21, 22 braced by horizontal rods and vertical uprights perpendicular thereto, the rods carrying jumper supports 35, 36; 37, 38; 39, 40; 41, 42 in upper and lower levels. The humper space 4 has four and three aperture fanning strips 49, 51, 50, 52 in upper and lower levels mounted on horizontal bracing rods 43, 44. The lower four aperture strips are each associated with a pair of line panels while the upper three aperture strips are each associated with an exchange panel; the two rear apertures of lower fanning strip guiding jumper wires to terminals of a particular line panel of the associated pair while the three apertures of an upper fanning strip guide jumper wires to terminals of the associated exchange panel. The jumper space 4 is subdivided into two vertically disposed sub-spaces respectively between supports 35, 37, 39, 41 and 36, 38, 40, 42 and above supports 36, 38, 40, 42; and also into two horizontally disposed sub-spaces behind and in front of uprights 31 to 34, rods 43, 44 defining a jumper wire guide channel and the forward sub-space being subdivided into a rear guide channel between uprights 31 to 34 and 45 to 48 and a front guide channel forward of upright 45 to 48. Jumper wire bundles 67 to 64 are arranged in space 4 with bundles 67, 68 connected to terminals of line panels 6, 7 extending through apparatus 53, 54 of strip 49 into the guide channel between uprights 31 to 34 and 45 to 48, and then through aperture 61 of strip 51 to exchange panel 12. Similarly jumper wire bundles 69 to 70 connected to terminals of line panels 6, 7 are extended through apertures 53, 54 of strip 49 to supports 37, 39 of the space between supports 35, 37, 39, 41 and 35, 38, 40, 42 into the guide channel between uprights 31 to 34 and 45 to 48, and thence through middle aperture 64 of strip 52 to exchange panel 13. Jumper wire bundle 71 is connected to the terminals of line panel 8 and is extended through aperture 57 of strip 50 into guide channel in rear of rods 43, 44, over jumper supports 40, 38 of the space defined by supports 36, 38, 40, 42 and rods 27 to 48, into channel in front of uprights 45 to 48, and thence through aperture 62 of strip 51 to exchange panel 12. Jumper wire bundle 72 is connected to terminals of panel 8 and is extended through aperture 57 of strip 50 into guide channel in rear of rod 44, over jumper support 42 of the space defined by supports 36, 38, 40, 42 and rods 27 to 30; while jumper wire bundle 73 is connected to terminals of panel 9 and extended through aperture 58 of strip 50 into the channel in rear of rod 44, then into the channel forward of uprights 45 to 48, and through aperture 65 of strip 52 to exchange panel 13. Jumper wire bundle 74 is connected to terminals of a line panel of sub-frame 2 and is extended through aperture 63 of strip 51 to exchange panel 12. The jumper wires are arranged systematically in the subdivided jumper space and are equally distributed therein. Auxiliary interconnected upper and lower terminal blocks may be provided to reduce the lengths of the several jumpers connecting line and exchange panels (Fig. 3, not shwon).
