Abstract
1439325 Photo-electric surveillance unit KGM ELECTRONICS Ltd 6 Aug 1973 [6 May 1972] 21268/72 Heading G1A [Also in Division G4] A smoke, fire or intruder alarm system comprises a detector unit 1 including a light source 2 adjacent a lens 3 forming by way of mirror 4 an image of an area under surveillance and a set of photo-diode detectors 6 positioned in the image plane of the lens to form images of a plurality of retro-reflectors disposed in the area under surveillance. If one or more of the photo-diodes provides an output signal indicating a retroreflector is obscured a relay coil (RL2) Fig. 2 (not shown), is deactuated to give an alarm. A further photo-diode is connected in the opposite sense to the others and causes relay (RL2) to drop out if an obstruction in front of the detector unit reflects back to all the detectors. A yet further photo-diode detector monitors the output of the light source by way of optical fibre bundle 7 and controls the sensitivity of the other detectors accordingly, to compensate for the lamp ageing for example, whilst failure of the light source is indicated by operation of relay (RL1). The sensitivities of the integrated circuits forming, with the photo-diodes, the detectors, are individually adjustable by means of variable resistors. It is stated that the detectors may be used with a C.C.T.V. system and that when so used the detector output may be used to select and or energise T.V. cameras and or lighting equipment to conserve the life thereof and direct attention to the area concerned.
