Abstract

1438519 Organopolysiloxane compositions GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 20 June 1973 [28 June 1972] 29319/73 Addition to 1374834 Heading C3T A fluid composition stable under anhydrous conditions and curable at room temperature to an elastic solid in the presence of moisture comprises a base silanol chain-stopped polydiorganosiloxane of the formula where R 10 and R 11 are hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl and cyanoalkyl radicals and q varies from 300-5260, a silane of the formula 0À01 to 10 p.b.w. per 100 p.b.w. of the base polydiorganosiloxane of a titanium chelate catalyst and 0À3 to 20 p.b.w. per 100 p.b.w. of the polydiorganosiloxane of a viscosity depressant of the formula where R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are radicals having not more than 8 carbon atoms selected from hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl and cyanoalkyl radicals, m has a value of 0-3 and an average value based upon the total amount of silane in the composition of 0 to 1À99, and p has a value of 16 to 46. Preferably at least 50% of R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> radicals are methyl the remainder if any being phenyl radicals. The preferred titanium chelate catalyst has the formula where R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbyl or halohydrocarbyl, R<SP>8</SP>-OCO- or R<SP>8</SP>-COO- (where R<SP>8</SP> is C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl or cyanoalkyl) and the total number of carbon atoms in the R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> substituted alkanedioxy radical is not more than 18, R<SP>3</SP> is a C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl or cyanoalkyl radical, R<SP>6</SP> is the same as R<SP>2</SP> or halo, cyano, nitro, carboxy ester, acyl and hydrocarbyl substituted by halo, cyano, nitro, carboxy ester and acyl, R<SP>7</SP> is hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl or acyl, and in addition R<SP>7</SP> when taken together with R<SP>3</SP> can form together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached cyclic hydrocarbon substituents of up to 12 carbon atoms and chloro, nitro, acyl, cyano and carboxy ester-substituted cyclic hydrocarbon substituents; X is a C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl, cyanoalkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, cyanoalkoxy or amino radical, a=0-8 and such that when a is zero the C-R<SP>2</SP> 2 moieties are bonded to each other in a cyclic fashion. The disclosure is otherwise similar to that of the parent Specification No. 1,374,834.
