Abstract

1437370 Plucking poultry COPE WHELON & CO Ltd 17 Oct 1974 [20 July 1973] 34638/73 Heading A2U Apparatus for plucking poultry birds of different sizes comprises two opposed sets of rotatable plucking fingers 3, 4 defining a path for the poultry therebetween, the apparatus including automatic means for positioning each set of fingers in a plurality of discrete positions, each a different distance from the centreline 2 of said path. In the; embodiment shown, 6 rows of plucking fingers are each mounted on members 10 which are slidable towards and away from the centreline by pneumatic rams 13. The automatic means consists of stop members 28 which prevent the members 10 being withdrawn beyond a predetermined point. Stop members of differing lengths are brought into play by action of pneumatic rams 24-26 which are themselves of differing lengths on pillar 23. When none of the rams 24-26 is operative, the rows of plucking fingers may be fully retracted for cleaning. In addition to moving in and out, the upper and lower rows of plucking fingers 6 and 8 may also tilt within the limits of constraining members 31 (Fig. 1 - not shown).
