Abstract
1436351 Phosphonitrilic halides FMC CORP 28 Feb 1973 [1 March 1972] 9801/73 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A mixture of cyclic and linear phosphonitrilic chloride oligomers containing at least six NPCl 2 units is obtained by reacting PCl 5 with gaseous ammonia in an inert solvent at 100‹ to 135‹ C., the concentration of PCl 5 being at least 5 moles per litre of solvent. Specified inert solvents are tetrachloroethane, orthodichlorobenzene and monochlorobenzene, the latter being preferred. Examples are given in which the PCl 5 is prepared from PCl 3 and Cl 2 and is reacted with ammonia in chlorobenzene using an effective amount of 5 moles and 6À65 moles of PCl 5 respectively per litre of solvent. In a comparative example an analogous reaction is carried out using 2 moles of PCl 5 per litre of chlorobenzene, the product in this case containing much less of the linear oligomers.
