Abstract

1435832 Brake boosters and master cylinders HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KK 11 June 1973 27776/73 Heading F2F An hydraulic booster and master cylinder unit comprises a casing 1 with a master cylinder having one end mounted in the casing the latter having a stepped bore, a main piston P in the master cylinder, a control valve member 4 operably connected to a rod 7 and having an annular oil passage 5; a drive piston 6 coupled with the main piston P and slidable in an enlarged portion 3 of the bore to define with member 4 an oil pressure chamber a which is in constant communication with the passage 5, high and low pressure oil passages 11, 12 extending through the casing wall and opening into the reduced diameter portion 2 at axially spaced locations so that the annular passage 5 may be placed in communication with the low pressure passage 12 and disconnected from the high pressure passage 11 when the control valve member 4 assumes an outer normal position. An axial port 13 in a land of member 4 ensures constant communication between passage 5 and chamber a. Pressure on the brake pedal moves member 4 to close passage 12 and move piston 6 and thus piston P to initially apply the brakes and as the pedal moves further passage 11 is opened and placed in communication with passage 5 so that high pressure oil from an accumulator 8 flows via port 13 into chamber a to act on the piston 6 and increase braking pressure. In a modification (not shown) a resilient connection is provided between rod 7 and member 4.
