Abstract

1435586 Burner ignition and control CONTROLS CO OF AMERICA 30 April 1974 [25 May 1973] 25243/73 Heading F4T In an automatic ignition system for a burner, closure of a control switch TH, e.g. a room or boiler thermostat switch, energizes a relay A for a predetermined period. The relay closes a switch A 1 and thereby opens a solenoid-actuated gas valve 8 and energizes an igniter 14 to ignite the burner 12. A second relay B energized in response to detection of the flame, opens switch B 1 to isolate the igniter and lock the relay A in its energized state. If the burner fails to ignite during the predetermined period then relay A automatically locks out and the gas valve 8 will close. If after ignition of the burner the flame fails, then relay B becomes de-energized and thereby locks out relay A to close the gas valve. To commence another starting cycle after failure due to either of these reasons, a reset switch S must be operated. When the thermostat switch TH opens, the relay B will be deenergized causing the switch B 1 to close and the relay A to become de-energized to close the gas valve. The electrical circuit of the system, Fig. 2 (not shown), is so arranged that on failure of any of its components except a resistor (R 1 ), the relay A will de-energize and close the gas valve. Moreover, it includes a lock-out warning lamp (L).
