Abstract

1435513 Adjustable stand heads ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd 17 Aug 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 38455/72 Heading A4H An adjustable tilting mechanism, e.g. for levelling and aligning portable radar surveying equipment, comprises a base member 10, attached, e.g. to a tripod, a first spacing member 14 carried by the base member 10, a second spacing member 24 carried by the first member 14, and a support member 32, 34 carried by the second member 24 for mounting the equipment, each spacing member 14, 24 having an upper face inclined to a lower face so that by independent rotation of the members 14, 24 generally about an axis 16 and relative to base member 10 the support member 32, 34 can be tilted relative to axis 16 and to base member 10, and including means for preventing rotation of said spacing members 14, 24 from causing rotation of said support member 32, 34. Said means comprises a shaft 42 having square sections 44, 40 fitting in square holes 46, 38 in members 10, 32, or a gimbal or Hooke joint whose forks are attached to members 10 and 32. Ball races or roller bearings may be disposed between members 10, 14, 24 and 32 or 34, and a brake may be provided. The adjusted members may be clamped together by a disc 50 fixed to shaft 42, a disc 52 slideable on shaft 42, and a lever operated locking cam 56. Members 10, 14, 24, 34 have mating projections 20, 28, 62 and grooves to prevent relative radial movement.
