Abstract

1434975 Aerials; radio signalling INSTITUT NATIONAL DES INDUSTRIES EXTRACTIVES 26 July 1973 [3 Aug 1972] 35650/73 Addition to 1327864 Headings H4A and H4L In a radio communications system according to the parent Specification, transverse radiating gaps are provided by cutting the carrier cable and fixing the adjacent ends at each gap by means of a two-part dielectric material case. A cavity in the case houses a plate bearing a matching impedance device, which is connected to the conductors of the cable. As described, a coaxial cable is used which comprises inner and outer conductors, insulating material between said conductors, and an insulating sheathing over said outer conductor. The case comprises a bottom part 7, Fig. 4, and a lid 8 provided with respective grooves 9 and 10 for receiving and clamping the two portions of the sheathed cable when screws inserted in holes 13 in the lid are engaged with nuts received in cavities 14 in the bottom part. Transverse holes 15 along the bottom part 7 enable the case to be suspended, for example, on a wall. The bottom part comprises a cavity 16 and a removable partition, and similar provision is made in the lid. A rectangular support 17, Fig. 5, fits into the cavity 16. It comprises on its upper part stainless steel stirrup-pieces 35 by means of which the outer conductors of the adjacent co-axial cable portions may be secured, and be connected to plates 23 on its lower part. The centre conductors of the said cable portions are secured by screws 34 in metal blocks 27 and are consequently connected to metal plates 30, Fig. 7, on the lower part of the support 17. The matching impedance device comprises an inductor 32, which is connected between eye terminals 31 extending from the plates 30, and a capacitor 25, which is connected between eye terminals 24 extending from the plates 23. The matching impedance components are contained within a cavity 18 formed in the support 17 and, after assembly, said cavity may be filled with a suitable potting material.
