Abstract

1433156 Purifying fatty acid amides AKZONA Ine 12 Nov 1973 [21 Nov 1972] 52420/73 Heading C2C Fatty acid amides containing 14-22 carbon atoms and contaminated with free fatty acids are purified by (1) neutralizing free fatty acid with a base and (2) subjecting the neutralized product to molecular distillation under reduced pressure and collecting the amide as a distillate. The neutralizing agent may be sodium, potassium or lithium hydroxide (e.g. dissolved in methanol), a solution of sodium methoxide or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide.
