1433138 Cementitious coatings N WALLEY 5 Sept 1973 [5 June 1972] 26165/72 Heading C1H [Also in Divisions C3 C4-C5 and B21 A cementitious coating composition for protective and/or decorative coating of building and other civil engineering structures comprises calcined flint, hydraulic cement and glass fibres which are inert to the cement, the volume ratio of flint to cement being at. least 2 : 1. A highly alkaline cement can be used if alkali-resistant glass fibres are selected. High alumina cement can also be used. The calcined flnit may be of “inch or less particle size, and preferably includes particles of 100 B.S. mesh. Alkaliresistant glass fibres are disclosed in Specifications 1,200,732 and 1,243,973, the latter disclosing products of high ZrO 2 content. The low alkali borosilicate glass known as E-glass is suitable for use with a high alumina cement. The composition may contain 1-7% by wt. of glass fibre. A premix of glass fibre and calcined flint is also claimed. The coating may be applied by spraying an aqueous slurry of the flint, cement and glass fibre; alternatively the glass fibre may be separately sprayed. In another embodiment cementitious bodies are produced from a shaped viscous aqueous slurry of the flnit and cement in the stated ratio to which the glass fibre product has been applied, by allowing the composition to harden. The slurry may be moulded or pressed into shape.
