Abstract
1432900 Spring mechanisms SOLID STATE TECHNOLOGY Inc 2 April 1974 14597/74 Heading F2S [Also in Divisions G4 and H2] Apparatus for detecting when a normally vertical post 12, e.g. a pole of the type spaced along highways and used to mount emergency boxes, departs from the vertical comprises a radio transmitter 13 connected to a generator 18 mounted on the post 12 and drivable by a spring motor 26 associated with a pendulum 58. The motor 26 comprises gears 24, 28, a spring 40 which, by means of a crank 70, can be wound on to a spool 34, and a spool 32 for receiving the spring as it unwinds, the motor being normally held in its wound state by a member 42 which co-operates with the arm 62 of the pendulum and with a latch detent (not shown) in the lower surface of spool 32. Should the post, because of an accident, depart from the vertical, the arm 62 changes its orientation relative to the member 42 which thus moves to allow the spring to unwind, whereby the generator is driven and the occurrence of the event is signalled to a remote location by the radio transmitter.
