Abstract

1432570 Laminates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 41152/72 Heading B5N Belting material, e.g. for use for conveyer belting or drive belts, comprises rubber, reinforced with continuous filament extending along the length of the belt, and provided with a protective backing of non-woven fabric having a thickness below 0À5 mm., a breaking strength of 15-30 kp./5 cm., an extensibility at break greater than 40% and a shrinkage of less than 2% at a temperature of 170‹ C. The non-woven fabric, which may be applied to all or part of the surface of the belt, may be based on polyester or polyamide fibre and may be of single component fibres bonded together by means of a solvent or bicomponent fibres of two different synthetic materials extending along the length of the fibre, the lower melting of the materials forming at least a part of the outer surface of the fibre and the fibres being bonded by the application of heat. The non-woven fabric may be produced from a thicker fabric by splitting it into sheets of the desired thickness. The non-woven fabric may be bonded to the rubber material by solvent bonding, by the use of an adhesive or by heat and pressure bonding.
