Abstract
1432259 Exercising device H DUNKELGOD 22 June 1973 [1 July 1972 7 Nov 1972] 29918/73 Heading A6M An exercising device consists of two bladders of the same size and shape and made of flexible impermeable sheet material, the interiors of the bladders being connected to one another by connecting means and one of the bladders being provided with an inlet for filling the bladders with a filling medium, the arrangement being such that it is possible to effect a transfer of the filling medium between the two bladders through the connecting means alternately in one direction or the other by subjecting the two bladders to the alternating application and removal of force applied by parts of the human body. The filling medium may be air or water. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) the two bladders 10, 20 are joined by a tube 30 including a flow restrictor 31 and the bladder 20 is provided with a mouthpiece for inflating the bladders 10, 20. The device may be used to exercise the hands by alternating grasping and kneading motions of the hands. Other examples of use include transmitting alternating forces to the device by means of the feet from a standing position or by means of the palms of the hands from a semi-prone position with the weight of the body supported by the arms. In another example one bladder supports the head and the other bladder supports the buttocks, the head and buttocks being alternately raised. The tube 30 may be removably connected to the bladders 10, 20 so that tubes 30 of different lengths may be used, the length of the tube depending on which parts of the body to be exercised. In a modification (Fig. 2) the device is made from two sheets of material welded together to form the bladders 10a, 20a, and including welds 5a, 5b which define a connecting piece 35 including a connecting opening 30a. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5), particularly suitable for exercising the hands, the bladders 41, 42 are oval in shape and the device is formed by welding together sheets 45 to 48 along their outside edges 49, 50 and at their centres 51 leaving a connecting opening 44. The bladder 42 is also provided with a mouthpiece 43.
