Abstract

1432105 Surgical drain DOW CORNING CORP 10 June 1974 [3 Oct 1973] 25645/74 Heading A5R A medical drain comprises an elongate tube 10 having a central first lumen 18 and a peripheral outer wall 16, a second lumen 22 integral with and lying within wall 16 parallel for most of its length to lumen 18 and opening into lumen 18 near a closed distal end 14 of tube 10, and a series of apertures 20 through wall 16 into a lumen 18. The proximal ends of lumens 18, 22 open into a Y-shaped connector 12, one branch of which leads lumen 18 to a suction pump, the other branch leading lumen 22 to a bacteria filter 24 having a continuation tube open to the air. The diameters of round apertures 20 are smaller than that of lumen 18 to prevent blockage of the latter when suction is applied by the pump. Filter 24 may be replaced by a medicament dispenser e.g. for anticoagulant. Lumen 22 opens into lumen 18 between apertures 20 and the end 14. The device is of clear, medical grade silicone rubber, thermoplastics or vulcanisable material and may be extruded and/or moulded.
