Abstract
1431951 Selective signalling PHYSICS INTERNATIONAL CO 1 June 1973 26334/73 Heading G4H In a system for transmission of analog data over a single transmission channel from sensors at one of a plurality of remote stations to a central station, the central station sends an address signal to select one of the remote stations and initiate therein a ramp signal and transmission of a plurality of distinct tones associated one with each sensor, transmission of each tone being terminated when the ramp equals the output of the respective sensor. The address signal is one (or more) tone and recognition of it in a remote station triggers a pulse generator, the pulse from which is integrated to constitute the ramp, the leading edge of the pulse also closing switches passing the outputs of sensor tone generators, each switch being subsequently opened under control of the respective comparator comparing the respective sensor output with the ramp. The durationsignificant tone outputs are sent together over the transmission channel (e.g. telephone line) to the central station, followed by the remote station address tone(s). Each duration-significant sensor tone is passed by a filter respective to its frequency, amplified, rectified, filtered (using a capacitor), amplified and integrated to reproduce the original sensor output amplitude which is stored on a respective capacitor. The address tone sent out from the central station is also filtered &c. in the central station to trigger a monostable to define a time interval during which the remote station should send its address tone back (as mentioned above). If it arrives during this interval, an AND gate, responsive to the monostable and to a filter &c. recognizing the returned tone, actuates a relay to pass the capacitor outputs via a sequencing switch to remote indicating, recording and processing stations.
