Abstract

1431367 Equilibrating organic halosilyl compounds TH GOLDSCHMIDT AG 24 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 46142/74 Headings C3S and C3T Mixtures of organopolysiloxanes containing Si-bound halogen atoms, or of organohalosilanes and organopolysiloxanes, are equilibrated in the presence of a hydrogen halide and 0À002 to 0À2 moles/Si atom of an N-peralkylated acid amide. Preferably the equilibration is conducted under pressure at 50-110‹ C. Suitable amides include dimethyl- and diethyl-formamide and -acetamide, hexamethyl phosphoramide, tetramethyl- and tetraethyl-urea, and ethylphosphonic dimethylamide. An iron III compound may previously have been added as addition equilibration catalyst; it is assumed to give, e.g., HFeCl 4 in situ. In examples, 0À015, 0À02 or 0À03 moles/Si atom of dimethylformamide. 2HCl is used to equilibrate (1) a crude hydrolysate of Me 2 SiCl 2 , corresponding to hexadimethylsiloxane dichloride but containing 35% cyclic (Me 2 SiO) 4 ; (2) a crude hydrolysate corresponding to (3) a crude hydrolysate of unit and (4) mixtures of hexamethyl cyclotrisiloxane with (a) MeViSiCl 2 , (b) Cl(Me 2 SiO) 5 SiMeCl, (c) BrCH 2 SiMeCl 2 , (d) PhMeSiCl 2 , (e) CNC 2 H 4 Si- MeCl 2 , (f) CH 3 COOC 3 H 6 SiMeCl 2 , and (g) C 18 H 37 - SiCl 3 . The product of Example 2 is condensed with a propylene oxide-ethylene oxide adduct of butanol, and the block copolymer produced used to stabilize a polyurethane foam.
